Meet Our Team
Visionary
Scott Ehrlich
After a long successful career as a real estate developer, Scott had a unique opportunity to sell one of his apartment buildings in Pasadena, California. On a conference call with his partners to discuss what to do with the proceeds he said, “We have to start looking at the Return on Life (ROL) metric, not only the Return on Investment (ROI),” a metric that had been ingrained into each of their respective investment psyches for decades running. In fact, without the ROI mentality and over 3-decades of wealth creation and wealth preservation, Scott would not have been able to entertain taking on a global cause with tenacity, grit, perseverance, and most importantly, an exuberant sense of what’s possible.
Unfortunately, the partners did not buy into this strategy, but Scott did, and hence, the Santa Ynez Ranch was born. The ranch had been commercially harvested for years by the Gallo Group which is the largest wine producer in the United States. With a new visionary at the helm, the days of commercial harvesting were over. The catalyst for Scott was born after watching the Documentary, Kiss The Ground (KTG), a regenerative agriculture story deep rooted in the health of the soil. Scott decided that there must be a more environmentally conscious path to harvesting the farm, a healthier way for the ranch to be a radiant exemplar.
The first big thing at the farm was to move away from all pesticides that were used on the ranch over the course of many years. The soil was literally dead. This comes with its own problems, but obstacles have always been his friend, and the ranch was going to become his next chapter. As a result, Regenerative Farming at the Santa Ynez ranch was born.
Although only a year into a complex 7-year process of soil restoration, Scott and his team have already witnessed the return of wildlife that was not existent before. The change has begun. Of the 120+ wineries in the Santa Ynez Valley, everyone may not readily follow suit; however, Scott’s goal as an exemplar is to model that doing the right thing does not necessarily equate to making less money. Quite the contrary, one can concurrently make money and responsibly care for the future health of the soil, and most importantly, the earth.
Scott is putting his money where his mouth is as a Soil advocate by not only contributing to the KTG movement, but also sponsoring a KTG Common Ground event at the Santa Ynez Ranch in October of 2022. Words alone will not suffice.

Steve Clifton
Winemaker
Steve Clifton began his winemaking career in 1991 when he left his previous incarnation as a musician and nightclub entrepreneur behind and begged his way into a tasting room position at Rancho Sisquoc Winery. Little by little he forced his way into the cellar and in time had worked his way up to Assistant Winemaker under Stephan Bedford.
Over the next few years Steve’s on the job schooling would include winemaking positions at Beckmen, Brander and Domaine Santa Barbara wineries. To round out his knowledge in the marketing and sales areas of the industry, Steve managed the Wine Cask retail store in Santa Barbara from 1995-1998.
Steve began his own production with Palmina in 1995, dedicated solely to Italian grape varieties. At the same time he formed a partnership with Greg Brewer and founded Brewer-Clifton producing exclusively Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from the Sta. Rita Hills AVA. Both wineries have garnered international acclaim and accolades.
Steve has worked as a winemaker on projects as far flung as Italy, Argentina and Walla Walla Washington, but has always known that Santa Barbara County is where his winemaking roots and passion resides.
Steve has two sons, Roman and Luca.

Alisa Jacobson
Winemaker
Jacobson (who goes by “AJ”) has followed her passion for agriculture and the sciences from an early age. She was raised in the fertile California Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. Growing up in and around farms instilled in her a lifelong desire to find ways to help protect the land and water supply and to educate people about preserving natural resources.
In 2001, upon graduation from UC Davis with a degree in viticulture and enology, Jacobson found work in cellars and winemaking labs in California focused on sparkling wine production. She also ventured to Australia to make Shiraz (and to take deep dives along the Great Barrier Reef!). After returning to California, Jacobson began work at Joseph Phelps, which is where she met Joel and Sarah Gott.
In 2003, the Gotts hired her as their first employee. She helped usher the Joel Gott wine label from obscurity to the globally-recognized iconic brand it is today. Jacobson rose to the rank of VP of Winemaking, overseeing a team of 30, and managing all winery and vineyard operations throughout California, Oregon, and Washington, as well as projects in Argentina, Chile, Italy, France, and New Zealand. Recently, she passed the baton back to Joel and Sarah Gott and set out to forge her own path with a renewed and passionate focus on making wine from sustainably-farmed vineyards in coastal regions.
Today, Jacobson’s primary focus is on Turning Tide Wines. She relocated from Sonoma to San Luis Obispo County, co-owns two vineyards in the Santa Ynez AVA—one with a decked-out vacation rental house—and is looking to acquire more as she grows her consulting business. Dedicated to her cause of trying to help the wine industry become more sustainable and climate-forward, she currently sits on the board of the Oregon Wine Council, the Unified Grape and Wine Symposium program development committee, and is the chair of the research committee on the West Coast Smoke Exposure Task Force.
Making wines from all over the world has taught Jacobson that wine is made in the vineyard and the healthier the soil and environment, the more alive and vibrant the wine will appear in the glass. She is committed to the goal of showcasing the true essence of the grapes she harvests, all while respecting the elements each vineyard site provides—and helping turn the tide on how vineyards are farmed around the globe.

Jordan Lonborg graduated from Cal Poly University with a degree in Fruit Science. He began working with Monterey Pacific, a vineyard management company, on the San Bernabe Ranch in King City, CA. Assisting in the management of nearly 5000 acres on a chemically farmed property, Jordan saw firsthand what effects conventional pesticides have on the land and the people that work that land. When an opportunity to work as the Viticulturist at Tablas Creek Vineyard in Paso Robles basically fell in his lap,the decision to make the switch was an easy one. Since joining the Tablas Creek team, Jordan has overseen the health and wellbeing of the vineyard at Tablas Creek, certified the entire 280 acre property Biodynamic and most recently spearheaded the certification process for Regenerative Organic Certified.
In 2019, Tablas Creek Vineyard became the first vineyard in the world to receive ROC certification. In 2021, Tablas Creek again became the first vineyard in the world to receive the GOLD level status of the ROC certification. Jordan lives in the Adelaide AVA of Paso Robles with his wife Molly, daughter Alma, and son Ziggy. When not in the vineyard Jordan can be found fishing for ling cod or halibut off his kayak or chasing trout in Northern California.
